About the Artist

I am Brandon Reese, a fine art photographer based in Columbia, South Carolina, driven by a deep fascination with light, form, and the fleeting nature of moments. My journey began with a B.A. in Photography and Digital Imaging from Virginia Intermont College, where I learned not just the technical craft of photography, but how to see—to recognize the subtle architecture of shadow, the shifting language of color, and the quiet narratives embedded within everyday spaces.

I later earned my M.Ed. in Secondary Social Studies Education from King University and currently work as a Social Studies teacher in Columbia, SC. This dual practice—educator and artist—continually shapes my perspective, informing the way I approach storytelling, context, and human experience within my work.

My photography exists at the intersection of observation and interpretation. Every image is guided by both instinct and intention—a balance between allowing a moment to unfold naturally and refining it into something enduring. In the studio, I construct light with precision, building controlled environments that emphasize depth, texture, and form. In the field, I respond to unpredictability, embracing the immediacy of lived experience.

Influenced by both fine art and cinematic traditions, my approach draws on the language of film—particularly in the use of light, atmosphere, and emotional tension. I am interested in what exists just beyond clarity: the edge of shadow, the weight of silence, the presence of something felt but not fully revealed.

Photography, for me, is not an act of documentation, but of distillation. It is the process of translating a moment into a visual form that lingers—something that extends beyond the frame and into memory. Whether encountered in a gallery, in print, or within a personal collection, my work is intended to resonate not only visually, but emotionally—inviting the viewer to pause, reflect, and return.
